Off the back of the release of their tenth studio LP I’m With You, LA rock outfit Red Hot Chili Peppers have been hotly tipped to make the trip down under for some time now. There was speculation originally that they may be added to the Big Day Out 2012 lineup, however organisers rejected such suggestions prior to announcing Kanye West and Soundgarden.
Now in an interview with rock radio station Triple M, longtime bassist Flea has revealed that the band do have dates organised for a tour but he wasn’t sure of the exact details. We are coming,” Flea said to radio listeners. “I looked at my tour schedule and it’s there next year. I don’t know the dates, I’m sorry, but we are coming. Without doubt, we will come… and rock… like untethered beasts.”
I’m With You was released in August this year and went on to sell over 229,000 copies in it’s first week in the US. A little closer to home it peaked at number two on the ARIA album charts.
The album is the first after the departure of longtime guitarist John Frusciante who was replaced by former Warpaint member and longtime friend Josh Klinghoffer.
Flea told Spin magazine in an interview in August that Klinghoffer’s presence had driven their new guitar heavy sound, saying “Because of that, the feeling of the music is a lot different. John is a brilliant virtuoso guitar player, who could do whatever he wants on the guitar. It’s unbelievable and I’m so fucking grateful for his contributions to the band. But Josh is a subtler textural player who also plays and writes on a lot of different instruments. He’s not like this Guitar Hero type.”
