Super Best Friends may just make you think of South Park, but they are in fact the latest in a line of young bands to grace Canberra’s rock scene.

Their Handshake EP is raw, gritty and grungy, with some great basslines from Matt Roberts. Vocalist Johnny Barrington doesn’t sing so much as shout the lyrics. It’s exactly the type of music that would be perfect live, being moshed to by sweaty rock kids.

Terribly Australian and very energetic, the EP is made for headbanging to. For now, they stick to the same formula: distorted bass, yelled lyrics and the occasional synth adding some intrigue. It may get a little repetitive, but Super Best Friends have the potential to become heavy hitters in Australian rock.
