Friends

Formed in 2010 after meeting at the Glastonbury festival, Will & The People have really polished their sound on their second long player, Friends.

While still possessing that sense of mischief and fun that made their debut so endearing, as well as a highly potent weapon in their live shows, Friends sees the band attaining more focus in regards to their sound.

Recorded in the 17^th century barn the group collectively live in, the album still burns with that love of all things reggae that illustrates how they are taking a different approach than their British peers in the current musical climate.

Kicking off with the joyous ska-influenced “Holiday”, the album traverses some new musical terrain for front man/guitarist Will Rendle and his merry men, with the delightfully languid “Sensimilla” is a wonderful case in point.

Lyrically, Rendle sings about life as he and the band experience it. His direct lyrics, have a straight up ‘no bullshit’ style to them. More power to the band for saying what they mean and meaning what they say.

While reminiscent of old school reggae and ska, made popular by the likes of Bob Marley and Madness, Will & The People bring something irresistibly fresh and lively to the table. A unique and witty sense of character and being shines through the tracks on this release.

Touring Australia in December 2012/Janurary 2013, the band promises some utterly delightful and fun shows, if this excellent new release is anything to go by.
