You’d not be a fool if you thought you’d heard the last of Evermore, the band of brothers having gone into hibernation for the last three years.
What’s come from that hibernation however, is the soft rock trio’s self-produced, self-recorded, self-mixed and self-released album, Follow The Sun; a product of their very own hand-built studio in an old stable on their property in regional Victoria. It’s safe to say they’ve not been slacking in the slightest.
The fourth album from the New Zealanders turned Australians provides a pleasant return, with uplifting and warming numbers based on connection, hope, and being home.
Marking a change from their prior album that delivered dance pop numbers like ‘Hey Boys and Girls’, Follow The Sun sees the return to the original Evermore elements.
Brass, synth, piano and acoustic guitar sections are accompanied by the distinctive enchanting vocals, through 11 mixed tempo tracks filled with a heartening spirit.
A folk-laced opening track with harmonious vocals leads the way to the affable second number, the title track which is aptly the most likeable song of the collection.
Marching band drums and electric guitar riffs occasionally appear throughout the pop rock ballads and indie rock tunes with Jon, Peter and Dann Hume uniting once again to create a pleasant collection of summer anthems.
Follow The Sun is a typical Evermore album. No one would object to have it playing the background, but in the background is generally where it will stay.
