Formed in 1990, Clutch have a formidable reputation for playing hard and heavy music their way, free of being subject to musical trends or styles over the past two decades.

Earth Rocker, the band’s tenth full-length studio release, sees no change in their uncompromising, take no shit attitude.

Kicking off with the blistering title track, this latest release sees the band in fine form.

What makes Clutch so interesting to listen to is the way they take what has gone before in regards to heavy music and put their own sense of identity and being into it.

Traversing a very fruitful middle ground between experimental and stoner rock, the band find a highly compelling and infectious groove in the music they create.

Their first album in four years, Earth Rocker is a hugely enjoyable listen from start to finish.

Although Clutch have a highly uncompromising and in your face style to them, their music never comes off as depressing or maudlin.

Armed with some great tracks like “Mr Freedom”, “Unto The Breach” and the lacerating “D.C. Sound Attack!”, this is an album that gives heavy music a good name and proves that, for all the generic sounds associated with this genre, there are still bands that possess a unique sense of personality  that can shine through.
