United Nations of Sound, Ashcroft’s latest group, have teamed up with London hip-hop producer No ID for their self- titled debut. Of the unexpected partnership, Ashcroft stated “Bittersweet Symphony is pretty much hip-hop so I knew working with No I.D. would take my music to another level.” Calling Bittersweet Symphony hip-hop is a bit far-fetched, kind of like Liam Gallagher minus the ego. Impossible.
In a recent interview with Shortlist Mag, Ashcroft criticised the British music scene, calling it dull and stale, expressing contempt at the current trend of vast collaborations, saying “It’s Top Trumps music – ‘I’m going to Top Trump you with how many guests I’ve got”. United Nations of Sound release their debut in the UK on July 19th.
