The wait for R9 continues, but is Rihanna trolling fans or finally giving a legit update?
The Rihanna Navy is one of the most loyal, if hardcore, fanbases out there. It’s no surprise that when it comes to the Bajan singer’s current workload, that producing music might not necessarily be at the top of the agenda, what, with the FENTY beauty and clothing empire truly popping off.
Still, Rihanna’s new music is a dream many fans lust after and excitingly, it looks like some new sounds are going to be revealing themselves sooner than we might thing. Speaking with The Cut just ahead of the weekend, Rihanna revealed that she’ll be spending Valentine’s Day in the studio.
Shocked? Perhaps.
“I’m so excited, actually.” she said. “I can’t say who I’m working with, but it’s somebody I’ve been wanting to work with for a long time. …Okay I’ll tell you. Pharrell.”

Rihanna last linked up with Pharrell [as N*E*R*D] on the catchy as hell tune ‘Lemon’ back in 2017. Pharrell himself threw some spice onto rumours of a new Rihanna album last year by jumping in on a fan’s comments thread.

It will be four years since Rihanna’s last studio release, ANTI. In a separate interview, Rihanna gave no more clues about when R9 is due for any type of release, though it seems like she’s enjoying keeping fans on the back burner.
“To be continued,” she told ET. “I like to antagonise my fans a little bit. Well, they antagonise me, too! So, they get it right back.”
