Robbie Williams has revealed that he and his wife Ayda Field were once threatened with being beheaded during a trip to Haiti in 2010.

The singer revealed on his wife’s Ayda’s podcast Postcards from the Edge, that after travelling to Haiti for a four day trip following the devastating 2010 earthquake, he and actress Ayda were accosted by bandits who threatened the pair’s life.

“I got threatened to be beheaded in Haiti. We were going out there to help. I was like, ‘Should we go to the next street then?’ and looking back, it was scary,” Williams said.

Ayda agreed, saying: “I was with you, I too was being threatened to be beheaded as well.”

The couple, who married in 2010, travelled to Haiti with UNICEF to aid those who had lost their homes during the earthquake. Despite the hiccup, Robbie Williams revealed that it was seeing the Haitian children who had suffered during the disaster was the catalyst in making him want to become a father.

“When you go to somewhere like Haiti, it does make you feel like you want to help,” he said. “It’s awful what has happened. Working with kids has made me want to have them.”

More than 250,000 lives were lost in the Haiti earthquake in 2015, with around 1.5 million people losing their homes. Robbie and Ayda visited a camp city in Jacmel and met refugees.
