For more than 50 years, Robert Plant has led one of the world’s most celebrated musical careers, and now, he’s set to take a look back with a brand new podcast.
Back in September of 1968, The New Yardbirds played their first gig in Denmark. Before long, the group had adopted the name Led Zeppelin, and were well on their way to becoming one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
Few knew that over 50 years later, all of these musicians would be lauded as icons of their genre, celebrated for their contributions to music, and the phenomenal songs that they delivered to their fans over the years.
Now, Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant is set to take a step back, setting his sights on where he’s been rather than where he’s going, with his new podcast, Digging Deep.
Announced via a video on Robert Plant’s social media accounts, the clip features the artist sharing an audio message of what has made him decide to reminisce on his past.
“Making records is a very personal experience,” Plant begins. “I was so desperate to get away from that environment, then I was saying, let’s get out of here.”
“But then, now and again down the line, opening up some of the songs and looking back at ’em, I marvel at some of it.”
“Mostly wherever I am even now all these years later, I really wanna be there,” he added. “I’m going to be picking out some songs from here and there along the way, mixing constant shifts and sound and intention. Men and women who encouraged and enlightened the themes and the stories.”
While a voice-over describes the podcast as being about “the moments, people and places that have inspired some of his most treasured music,” the official description notes we’ll hear “stories of inspiration, collaboration and intervention”, while describing it as “Robert’s personal road map to an incredible and personal journey that’s ongoing to this very day.”
Robert Plant’s Digging Deep is set to premiere on Monday, June 3rd, via whichever platform you use to listen to podcasts.
In related news, the veteran rocker recently debuted his latest band, Saving Grace, while serving as a surprise support act for the legendary Fairport Convention.
