There have been many monumental moments for women in music this year, especially when it comes to music videos.

From Ariana Grande’s iconic movie-referencing ‘thank u, next’ to Taylor Swift’s controversial yet LGBT-empowering ‘You Need to Calm Down’, the entertainment hasn’t stopped.

Taylor’s video comes in at a whopping 74 Million views, while Grande has seen incredible success with 395 Million.

Both of these artists though are not the creators of this years highest viewed video.

That title belongs to Catalonian singer and superstar Rosalía.

With her song ‘Con Altura’, featuring J Balvin and El Guincho, Rosalía has amassed nearly 500 Million views.

This makes the it the highest viewed video on YouTube by any female artist this year, with numbers pretty hard to beat out.

In the short but sweet vid, you can see Rosalía mix killer moves with stunning looks on a rather spacious plane.

On top of this is a rather impressive 163 Million Spotify plays and counting.

‘Con Altura’ has also spent 12 weeks so far atop the YouTube music charts.

At one point in its reign in late June, its competition included eight other Spanish songs, proving this year to be incredible for Spanish-language music.

Rosalía is no stranger to success, however, and if you’ve never heard of her, she’s been around for a while, and you’re pretty late to the party.

Her 2017 album Los ángeles saw incredible praise and international critical acclaim, and was followed by 2018’s El Mal Querer, which features the highly addictive ‘Malamente’.

Just this month the artist released a new two-tracker titled ‘Fucking Money Man’.

Upon the release, the project was advertised in the business section of Spanish newspaper El Paísin bold letters hard to ignore.

The two tracks, ‘Dio$ No$ Libre del Dinero’ (God Free Us From the Money) and ‘Milionària’, act as cautionary tales over postmodern flamenco beats.

The subject matter? Money of course, of which after ‘Con Altura’s success, Rosalía is definitely no stranger to.
