The debut album from Rosïe & The Bees is just as rosy as the name suggests. Filled to the brim with themes of peace and open-mindedness, it would be a challenge to listen to this deeply spiritual record and not assimilate the positive energy that the music exudes.

The Australian three-piece band features the smooth vocals of singer Rosie Henshaw teamed with Banel Martinez on guitar and Byron Mark on keyboard and percussion (who together form The Bees, of course). For their very first album, the group have done well to create their own unique sound, mastering a genre that’s largely underrepresented in today’s popular music scene.

The self-described psychedelic-pop/nu-soul trio’s strength lies in their lyrical themes of serenity and free thought. Paired with some sweet soul melodies, and a scattering of rhythms reminiscent of ‘60s psychedelia, the album depicts a connectedness to nature and a strong sense of gratitude for all aspects life.

The band’s genuine love for the tunes they make transcends with ease. Expressed most evidently in signature track ‘Musïc’, Henshaw’s lyrics liken music to a form of mediation and the root of all inspiration, declaring, “Music is an axis to which the world revolves around”.

Even if you aren’t usually into soul music but have been looking for something new to listen to, give this one a go. The record makes for a fitting soundtrack to a chill out session on one of those sunny summer afternoons.
