Ruby Fields’ penchant for hook-laden grunge pop and self-effacing songwriting is front and centre on new single ‘Trouble’.

Out now, the track is inspired by fuzz-punk legends like Fidlar and Goons Of Doom. Ruby says she’s been playing the track live for two years now and that “it’s a fun little love child of dicky lines and (I hope) a bit of energy.”

‘Trouble’ is, of course, lifted from Ruby’s just-released second EP Permanent Hermit, which features the nostalgic, slow-burning anthem ‘Dinosaurs’, which nabbed the #8 spot on this year’s Hottest 100.

Permanent Hermit comes after Ruby’s debut EP Your Dad’s Opinion For Dinnerwhich not only cemented Ruby as a one to watch both here and overseas but is also a talented songwriter who is just getting started.

2019 is already feeling like it will be a banner year for Ruby. After stunning audiences during her debut Laneway Festival run, and after releasing triple j favourite ‘Climate’ (which she describes as being a “happier song”), Ruby announced her biggest headline shows to date.

Celebrations kick off at Brisbane’s Brightside on May 17th and end with a show at Hobart’s Republic Bar on June 8th.

‘Trouble’ lyrics

I’m young, you’re all old
Never do what I’m told
I’m trying to be apart
Of this world, a head start

It’s hard, I’m lonely
Or maybe, I’m totally
I’m done, I’m tired
Give us a beer, just got fired

Well, my life’s pretty shit
But I don’t mind being alone
It makes it easy when I never have a phone
And I don’t need to want to [?] to your own
But I know

That I’m just too much trouble
Trouble
Trouble

I’m gross, bacterial
Nor wife material
Don’t want romantic dates
Just a root, a best mate

A dirty truck
A comfy swag
A big dog
Some trackie-dacks
Pretty busy so I’m not fussed
I only love to something, that’s enough

Well, maybe its because I give it up too soon
I don’t like waiting, cut to chasing, yeah, that’s true
You only date [?] will stay friends
That’s fine and cool love just never be one of them

I’m too much trouble
Trouble
Trouble
Trouble

I tried to remind my self
That its good for mental health
To not care to think I’m hot
But I can’t have sex unless the lights are off
So I play to heaps of crowds
But I’m anxious, I’m a coward
Forgot to shave, now I got stubble
Cuase smooth legs are too much trouble
