Ever since Powderfinger ended their 21 year career in 2010, folks have been hanging out for a full-blown reunion. With rumours constantly swirling, fans were shocked last month when the majority of Powderfinger’s members joined frontman Bernard Fanning onstage for a couple of hits. It seems like fans have been spoiled by this event, because rumours have surfaced about the possibility of another reunion tonight.

Back on July 22nd, Bernard Fanning’s Splendour In The Grass set was invaded briefly by all of Powderfinger’s members, minus drummer Jon Coghill, for a brief run through of classic hits ‘(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind’, and ‘These Days’. Obviously, this was considered a once-in-a-lifetime event by many fans in the crowd, but some are now thinking that lightning could strike twice.

As the Sunshine Coast Daily reports, Bernard Fanning is set to perform at the Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival tonight, and for some reason, the Internet reckons that there might be another Powderfinger reunion in the works.

However, drummer Jon Coghill, who was rather unceremoniously left out of the brief Splendour In The Grass reunion, has shot down rumours. “No, it’s not happening,” said Coghill yesterday, who now works as a radio journalist with the ABC. “I’m pretty sure it’s not. They would’ve told me this time.”

While we can’t argue with that logic, the sad fact remains that Jon Coghill was replaced by the drummer of Bernard Fanning’s band for the Splendour In The Grass performance, after which Coghill expressed his displeasure at the fact the band never notified him about their getting together. Since they didn’t notify him once before, they might not have notified him this time either. Here’s hoping that if there is a reunion, they had the common courtesy to let Coghill know and he’s just being coy right now.

At this stage, only time will tell if there’s set to be a Powderfinger reunion tonight. So if you’re heading to the Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival tonight, be sure to stake out a front-row spot for Bernard Fanning just in case.
