El-P has offered an update on the status of Run The Jewels’ new album, noting it’s set to arrive next year.

Ever since Killer Mike and El-P got together to form Run The Jewels five years ago, they’ve been a rather productive duo. Following the release of their self-titled debut, the group have been pretty consistent with their music, with the longest wait between records being just over two years.

However, as 2018 comes to a close and music fans notice they’ve still not received Run The Jewels 4, El-P has taken to social media to offer an update on the project.

Posting a series of messages on Twitter earlier this morning, El-P explained that while the duo are working hard on the new album, they’re going to have to wait a little while.

“I know a lot of you are hoping we drop RTJ4 this year so it’s only right I let you know clearly: we are not,” El-P began. “We just got off tour like 5 months ago. I scored a film and got married. We started and are working on it but it’s not even close to done. I tell you because I love you.”

“Oh and at the risk of losing the mystery of it all, RTJ4 will probably hit around summer time. I’m sorry if that schedule disappoints anyone but we need the time to make sure the music doesn’t.”

Earlier this year, El-P and Killer Mike spoke to Zane Lowe, noting that they’re aiming to make “the grimiest, rawest record we possibly can.”

“We always really were just about making nasty rap records, man,” Killer Mike explained. “At the end of the day, I think that one of the purest political statements to make is being honest and being raw and being genuine.”

“We never were the type of people who were looking to make records that were addressing specific political situations. If it happens, it happens, and it does on occasion, but we’re not Public Enemy.”

“What we’re trying to do is be two guys in a friendship from different places having the time of their lives and making something that everybody can make the scrunchy face to when they hear.”

While we’re not quite sure when exactly Run The Jewels 4 will be making its way to our ears, it’s looking like it’s shaping up to be one of the pair’s best releases yet.
