The last 12 months have been busy for Salarymen.

Having supported Royel Otis and San Cisco, sold out a UK show, and played festivals like Lost Paradise, SXSW Austin, and The Great Escape, you might think the Sydney-based indie rock duo is due for some downtime.

But there’s no rest for Renee de la Motte and Thomas Eagleton, who’ve just announced their debut album, Take It or Leave It. The record explores the chapters of a long-term relationship, following two people navigating the highs and lows of merging their lives, for better or worse.

The album was brought to life by recording engineer Antonia Gauci (GAUCI, Kučka, Vallis Alps, The Buoys) and mixing engineer Tony Buchen (Smashing Pumpkins, G Flip, Troye Sivan, Montaigne). The cover features a manga illustration by local artist Teasheen Chua.

Ahead of the album’s release on Friday, October 31st, Salarymen are set to release their new single “Let Me Go”. Already featured on Triple J and Mornings, Renee describes it as “an uptempo indie track with a hint of French disco and a psychedelic twist, inspired by the likes of Tame Impala, Jungle and Parcels.”

Motte explained the song’s message: “People have a tendency to stay where they’re comfortable, even if it’s hindering their potential.”

“Nowhere is this more evident than in relationships, where people remain in an unhappy or even abusive situation out of fear they’ll never find anything better. ‘Let Me Go’ speaks of that fear, but also the aching desire to rip the band-aid off and start afresh.”

The single drops on Friday, July 4th, across all streaming platforms. To hear it live, the duo will headline The Trocadero in Sydney as part of King Street Crawl on Sunday, July 13th, and support Brisbane alt-rock band Ball Park Music for Waves in Wollongong on Friday, July 25th.
