Hip hop wunderkind Sampa The Great is set to make her return to Sydney stages this year as the first act announced to play VIVID Live 2021.

Sampa’s ‘An Afro Future’ is set to grace Sydney Opera House’s Joan Sutherland Theatre on Sunday, 8th August.

“I’m honoured Sampa The Great is returning from Zambia, choosing Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House to realise her majestic and ambitious live performance spectacle, ‘An Afro Future’,” Ben Marshall, Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music and Vivid LIVE Curator shared in a statement.

“Sampa Tembo’s triumphant artistic arc makes her one of the most exciting creative voices of her generation, with her dazzling and inventive explorations of her musical and cultural heritage, fused with the explosive energy of the very best parties.”

Sampa The Great released her revelatory debut album, The Return, back in 2019. Since then, she’s featured on tracks by Tony Allen and collaborated with Junglepussy.
