After spending time in Paris supporting the release of her latest album, the beautifully sophisticated I Awake, performing throughout Europe, Sarah Blasko is returning home to Australia this July. Having already been announced as part of the 77-strong lineup for the sold out Splendour In The Grass, Ms. Blasko has now announced a full Australian tour to complement her Byron Bay slot.
Sarah Blasko, accompanied by her long time band, will craft a trail from Bunbury to Ballarat on an extensive national tour playing dates around the country through July/August.
The tour news also arrives with the latest single from Blasko’s fourth album, ‘All Of Me’, revealing a brand new music video for the song – in more ways than one.
Working with visual artist and frequent collaborator Wilk, Blasko’s new video features some tender visuals of the singer, obscured but none the less naked, as she delivers her spellbinding, unsettling tune in a performance based clip that is at once both strange and beautiful.
“I took the song literally: lyrically and emotionally,” says Wilk, attributing art house film directors Béla Tarr and Michelangelo Antonioni as reference points. “Sarah wanted something intimate, simple. The result is an unconventional single take video. The altered state of Sarah’s appearance and her apparent nudity is in purpose devoid of sexuality, replacing it with honesty, bravery and intimacy.”
Blasko adds: “We wanted to blur the border between the natural and the unnatural. The song itself likens falling in love to the purity of being a newborn but love is also at its best when it comes from a place of understanding and experience.”
For those who cannot wait until July to experience Sarah Blasko live, Triple J will be broadcasting her Melbourne show from February’s I Awake tour as part of their Live At the Wireless series on Monday 10th June.
‘All Of Me’ is taken from the album I Awake– out now through Dew Process/Universal Music Australia – which our Tone Deaf reviewer awarded a 9/10 score, writing: “just when you thought that she had reached the high point of her career, the singer-songwriter has pushed through boundaries with this masterpiece, confirming that she is in fact a class above the rest.”.
