German hard rock outfit Scorpions has revealed that they’re working on a new album during their downtime in the midst of COVID-19 quarantine.
Speaking to their fan site titled Scorpions News, frontman Klaus Meine spoke about a new album they’ve been working on, that’s hoping to be released in 2021 as a follow up to their 2017 Born To Touch Your Feelings – Best Of Rock Ballads – an anthology of previous releases.
Since quarantine regulations have stopped the band from getting together and recording tracks, Meine spoke of the fact that it’s still been a fun challenge to work on the album alone. “I really enjoy it,” he began. “I’ve been recording sessions myself before, but this time it’s different because we can’t be in one room together.”
“There’s no interactions, really, and working with a producer or working with an engineer, where you go, ‘I need my voice a little more up. I need a little more high end on the vocals’ — or whatever it is. And so it’s very different this time.”
Continuing on, Meine revealed that Scorpions have “a lot of material” ready for their upcoming album, which is said to be compiled of “all new songs”, too. “At the end of the day,” he continued, “whenever we have a chance to go to Los Angeles and join with Greg Fidelman [producer] to really go into production — whether he comes over here [to Germany] or we go to L.A., it depends on the whole corona situation.”
“I mean, this lockdown is so bad for all of us and for the whole world. So, we’re here and Greg’s in L.A., and we are in touch on Skype and FaceTime and all that, and try to make the best out of it and try to move on with the songs.”
Regardless of the experience he’s currently going through, Meine still can’t want until the whole band can be back together and in the studio with both Fidelman and engineer Hans-Martin Buff.

“I’m looking forward to that — to go back to normal life and hopefully we all can go back to our work and go back to our daily, our normal life. That’s what’s the most important thing for all of us right now.”
“The whole world is going through very difficult times, and it’s very scary and frightening. We are in a very privileged situation that at least we can be at home and can work in our own studios to keep things going,” he stated.
It’s unknown as to when we’ll be seeing this new Scorpions material, as COVID-19 regulations continue to keep others apart. However, Meine has reminded us that while we can’t be certain of things right now, we can tap into our creative wells and draw up some magic while stuck inside.
“It’s a wonderful thing, especially in these days when we are all in a lockdown and we have no chance to go nowhere, really — we cannot travel, we cannot move. But at least we can be creative. We can take a deep dive in our own creative work. And hopefully something good comes out of it.”
