Scott Ian says The Damned Things "possibly" have a new album coming

Hard rock supergroup The Damned Things might be releasing some new music soon, with guitarist Scott Ian alluding to the possibility of a new record.

Back in 2009, the unlikely pairing of Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman began to collaborate on some tunes. Soon, the duo welcomed in a bunch of other musicians, including Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley, Anthrax’s Rob Caggiano and Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley, and adopted the name of The Damned Things.

By the end of 2010, the group had released their debut album, Ironiclast, and following an Aussie tour, the members returned to their regular bands.

Since then, fans have been wondering if any new music would be coming their way, with Andy Hurley and Tim Buckley revealing back in 2016 that the group had enough demo recordings to fill an EP.

Now, a recent interview with Scott Ian has renewed hope after he indicated that there might “possibly” be a new album on the way.

Speaking to the Wall Of Sound podcast recently, Scott Ian discussed how the busy schedules of the band’s members has resulted in an almost eight year gap between releases.

“We always knew with The Damned Things, it was always going to be something that we would get to do schedules permitting, because we are all in extremely busy bands,” he explained.

“But look, we’re all friends and we’re all in contact with each other on a regular basis and I can say that there is, possibly, a record, but that’s all I’m going to say about it.”

Of course, if you can’t wait for a new record from The Damned Things, you can always go and catch Scott Ian when he’s in Australia next month for his ‘One Man Riot’ speaking tour.

“One Man Riot is what I call my talking show because the pretension of saying I am doing a ‘Spoken Word’ show is too much to bear,” explained Ian. “This isn’t a poetry reading. This isn’t an evening of sensitive discourse. It’s an evening of ridiculous truth.”

“It’s me talking (swearing) about this insane life I’ve led over the last 38 years, the people I’ve met and the shit that’s happened. And when I’m done swearing, you can ask me anything you want, the floor is yours.”

Who knows, maybe Scott Ian’s trip to Australia might result in one of his eager followers choosing to press him for a bit more info about a new record by The Damned Things?
