Netflix are teaming up with the family of the late Selena Quintanilla-Pérez on a series about the life of the music legend.

It’s been 23 years since Selena’s tragic death. The influential musician was a trailblazer in every sense of the word. She took the male-dominated world of Tejano by storm in the 90s. Selena earned her first Grammy at age 21 for her record Live!.

Selena: The Series has been described as being more of a coming-of-age story as opposed to a typical biopic. The script will be penned by Moisés Zamora (American Crime, Star). It will be co-produced by Selena’s surviving family members.

Selena’s sister Suzette has released a statement about the series, “Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives.”
