In news that Morrissey definitely did not want to wake up to, The Simpsons have gone ahead and officially released the Smiths-style parody song ‘Everyone Is Horrid Except Me (And Possibly You)’ from a recent episode as a single.

Last month a highly publicized episode of the Simpsons showed Lisa falling in love with a fictional band called the Snuffs and befriending its frontman, Quilloughby. While Morrissey isn’t technically named in the episode it doesn’t take a genius to pick up on the comparisons. Quilloughby is a British singer from the 1980s who, like Morrissey, is vegan and sports a quiff. After Lisa goes to watch the band play live, she’s disappointed to discover that Quilloughby’s become a boorish, meat-eating xenophobe.

There are other Morrissey-inspired breadcrumbs scattered throughout the episode, like Oscar Wilde poster, and parody song titles including ‘How Late Is Then’, ‘Hamburger Homicide’ and ‘Everyone Is Horrid Except Me (and Possibly You)’.

Morrissey was not impressed with his representation on the show, he even went as far as to say he’d sue the show if he had the money. Which, btw, is slightly baffling as you would assume Morrissey is a million times richer than your average folk.

“The hatred shown towards me from the creators of The Simpsons is obviously a taunting lawsuit, but one that requires more funding than I could possibly muster in order to make a challenge,” he wrote. “Neither do I have a determined business squad of legal practitioners ready to pounce.”

Now, with the news that ‘Everyone Is Horrid Except Me (And Possibly You)’ is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Pandora, odds are high that another tantrum from Morrissey is imminent.

Morrissey’s dummy spit surrounding his portrayal on the hit show was written in a very long and detailed statement on his website. Within the long text, he took aim at both the writers of The Simpsons and the show itself.

“Writing for The Simpsons, for example, evidently requires only complete ignorance. But all of these things are too easy for me to say. In a world obsessed with Hate Laws, there are none that protect me,” Morrissey wrote.

Interestingly, The Simpsons never responded to his statement. However, the release of  ‘Everyone Is Horrid Except Me (And Possibly You)’, could be portrayed as the show flippin’ the bird back at Morrissey.
