Sonny Moore, AKA Skrillex, has come out with a third release of genre-defying tracks. The collaborations with The Doors, Ellie Goulding and Wolfgang Gartner (who have all seen better days) among others, feel weak and as if they’re grasping after the coattails of this Grammy-nominated sensation.

The influence of drum and bass, rap and even ska simply leaves a violently noisy mess but it’s probably kept his fans happy until his album release. Assuming Skrillex doesn’t come out with anything even slightly original or progressive, how long do we have to wait until it’s cemented in stone that he’s simply creating the same dull, all-or-nothing dirty sounds?

Also worth mentioning is the track “Breakin’ a Sweat”: Whoever authorised the use of a vintage sound bite from Jim Morrison should forever be looking over their shoulder for his vengeful ghost.
