Slipknot percussionist and video director Shawn “Clown” Crahan has invited fans to send him their unique mask designs. Clown sent a tweet via the Knotfest account telling fans to “get creative” and “stay sic.”

Clown is typically credited with conceptualising Slipknot’s distinct visual identity. The nine-person Iowa metal outfit has worn masks on stage, in videos and press photos since the beginning of their career. And it’s not uncommon for Slipknot fans – or maggots – to arrive at gigs in their own masks.

“Take off your face,” writes Clown. “Create you own unique mask and send it to me.” He also includes his email address before providing more detail about what he wants. “It can be executed from scratch, or by turning an already existing mask into your own piece of art.”

He also says he’ll be reposting his favourites and perhaps even hosting a video conference with the standout entrants. “Some of you may be chosen to participate in a live chat with me while wearing your mask in front of the world.”

Last week Slipknot announced their annual festival series, Knotfest, would be re-imagined as an ongoing online series. The Knotfest Roadshow was set to begin its journey across North America last weekend, with artists such as A Day to Remember, Underoath and Code Orange joining Slipknot on the lineup.

The online variant launched on Friday, May 29th with a range of concert and interview footage from Slipknot, Underoath and Code Orange streaming via the Knotfest website. Swedish metal staples In Flames are in the spotlight for the second instalment, which takes place on Friday, June 5th. Knotfest will broadcast the band’s 2018 headline performance at Germany’s Wacken Festival.

California Deathcore veterns Suicide Silence are lined up to headline the June 19th edition, while June 12th “is set to feature a major unannounced festival event.”
