Feeling like you want to vent your frustrations? Then slip on some Slipknot, that’s what a new study has advised fans to do when they’re feeling angry.

As we tend towards the end of the year, much has been said about the year that was and the music that fans have listened to.

While Spotify recently revealed their most-listened to acts and songs of the year (and decade), it appears that we overlooked another batch of interesting info; the best music to suit each mood.

Yes, as Kerrang! points out, events and ticket search engine TickX recently released their findings on the best artists to listen to depending on mood.

From “happy” to “sad”, and from “angry “to “chill”, they’ve worked out the best artists, genres, and songs to listen to when you’re feeling these emotions.

How did they do it though? As they explain, “we used the Playlist Miner to find the most common songs in playlists titles containing ‘Happy’, ‘Sad’, ‘Sexy’, ‘Love’, ‘Angry’ and ‘Chill’ on 31st of October 2019.

“For each playlist we identified the most common songs, giving 20 of the most popular tracks per word. We used these most common songs to determine the 10 most common artists and 5 most common genres to appear in these playlists.

“We then used used the Organise Your Music tool to find the BPM, valence, danceability, energy, duration and year for each track from the Spotify API. We took the average of these values to find the anatomy of  the song for each mood.”

Pretty impressive, eh? But what did they discover exactly? Well, if you’re feeling happy, it appears as though the likes of Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, and Pharrell Williams are your go-to artists, with tracks like the latter’s appropriately-titled ‘Happy’, and Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’ among the best mood-boosters.

Sad? Then apparently artists like XXXTentacion (plus Ed Sheeran, strangely) and the emo-rap genre are your best bet, while acts like The Weeknd and Beyoncé are destined to get you in a “sexy” mood.

Feeling angry, however? Then that’s where things get pretty heavy, with Slipknot named the best artist to listen to while feeling the fury.

Chuck in acts like Three Days Grace, Linkin Park, or Avenged Sevenfold, and listen to genres like alternative metal and dance pop (apparently), and you’re set to go.

Looking for specific suggestions? Well, the findings say that tracks like Disturbed’s ‘Down With The Sickness’, Three Days Grace’s ‘I Hate Everything About You’, or Slipknot’ ‘Duality’ are the best tracks to chuck on the playlist.

If you’re wondering exactly what makes a song suited for the emotion of anger, it features an average BPM of 130, a 54 on the danceability scale, an 86 on the energy, runs for approximately 226 seconds, and was released around 2007.

In related news, fans are still wondering when they’ll get a chance to catch the legendary Slipknot live considering that their Aussie tour with Metallica was supposed to take place back in October.

Sadly, Metallica revealed in September that their Aussie dates would be postponed while frontman James Hetfield entered a treatment program in order to confront his struggles with addiction.

At this stage, there’s no word as to when these dates will be rescheduled, though Slipknot have said they’re hoping to bring their live show down to Australia regardless at a similarly undetermined date.
