Slipknot fans appear to be pretty dedicated to tracking down the identity of the band’s new member, with photos purportedly showing the group’s latest addition.
Earlier this year, Slipknot found themselves going through a little bit of turmoil after it was revealed that longtime percussionist Chris Fehn was suing the band. Before long, they had issued a statement to acknowledge that Fehn was no longer part of the group, though this was disputed by lawyers.
Speculation soon turned to who would be taking Fehn’s place in the group, with original vocalist Anders Colsefini noting that he would not in fact be returning to the band.
However, as the release date of the band’s new album has gotten closer, videos and live performances have shown off the new member, which fans have soon dubbed ‘Tortilla Man’ based on his mask and appearance.
While Corey Taylor explained that the new member’s identity is “nobody’s fucking business”, questions continue to be asked, with the unidentified member even poking fun at the situation, recently being photographed with a message on a drum that simply reads “who is the new guy?”
However, new theories about the new member’s identity have begun to circulate on Reddit, with fans turning to a new photo for proof the latest addition to Slipknot has been unmasked.
The image – which shows guitarist Mick Thomson and an unidentified individual leaving a hotel – has quickly become a topic of debate for fans who have been putting forth their ideas as to who this new member may be.
Of course, while some have wondered if this individual is even a bandmember and not a photographer as the camera around his neck seems to infer, one fan has pointed towards the footwear worn by the person as damning evidence.
Using other photos of the band on stage, the man’s footwear is shown to be (apparently) identical, reportedly confirming his identity as a member of Slipknot. However, it’s not known whether or not the shoes worn by the band are custom made, or if this whole thing is just a massive coincidence.
What we do know though is that this is one mystery whose resolution will arrive at some point in the future, at which time it will be fun to look back on all the theories and presumptions to see how right, or wrong, they were.
Meanwhile, Slipknot are gearing up to return to Australia later this year, with the band set to support Metallica on their first Australian tour in six years. Check out all the details below.
