It’s been a tempestuous time for Smashing Pumpkins fans. The past few months have seen back and forths regarding the bands’ reunion; and the ongoing feud between Billy Corgan and D’arcy Wretzky. Guitarist James Iha has defended Billy Corgan’s part in the feud.

Iha has backed Corgan’s claims that he attempted to make peace with Wretzky amongst negotiations about the reunion. In an interview with Guitar World, Iha had this to say:

“Billy tried his best. In the big picture, I think everybody is at different points in their lives, and whoever can work it out and get it together with the band can do it. It’s just one of those things.”

In the same interview, Corgan commented on the feud.

“I was pretty public about wanting her to be involved,” said Corgan. “I think it would been the best for everybody, including her, but it just didn’t work out.”

After months of speculation, the original lineup (mostly) reunited. They released their first new song in 18 years and appeared on stage together on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

The group are set to head out on tour soon with their newly reunited lineup. There’s been no word as to whether an Australian tour is on the horizons, but we all have our fingers crossed.
