Something For Kate have shared a teaser video for their upcoming single ‘Waste Our Breath’. The track is due for release on 17th July.

The teaser video shows the band’s members, Paul Dempsey, Stephanie Ashworth and Clint Hyndman, in the recording studio. Madeleine Jones filmed the video, according to the band’s social media.

‘Waste Our Breath’ is the second single to be released from the band’s upcoming album. It follows on from ‘Situation Room’, which hit streaming services in April. ‘Situation Room’ was the band’s first new music since the release of their sixth album, Leave Your Soul To Science, in 2012.

In December 2019, Something For Kate took to social media to reveal that their forthcoming album had been completed.

However, in April, bassist Stephanie Ashworth told Rolling Stone Australia that the coronavirus pandemic had affected the band’s plans to release the album and to tour.

“We obviously had plans to tour now and the record coming out, but I think we’re just like everyone else in terms of seeing how everything else is going to unfold,” she said.

“We’ll probably adapt to the situation like a lot of other bands, I suppose, and do some recordings, some performances from home.”

The Melbourne trio are still yet to announce a release date for the record.

While Something For Kate took a break from releasing music before 2020, frontman Paul Dempsey has been busy with his solo career. In 2013, he released a cover album, entitled Shotgun Karaoke. The singer-songwriter performed tracks originally recorded by Wilco, INXS and Courtney Barnett among others.

2016 saw Dempsey release his second album of original material as a solo artist, entitled Strange Loop. The record earned critical and popular acclaim, peaking at #5 on the ARIA album charts.
