Grunge veterans Soundgarden have dropped their first single in 16 years, written specifically for inclusion in the upcoming Avengers film – their first new material since Down on the Upside was released in 1996 where it went #1 on the ARIA charts.

The song will feature on both the bands upcoming as-of-yet untitled LP, and the soundtrack for the upcoming superhero movie The Avengers alongside some of rock’s biggest names including Five Finger Death Punch, Evanescence, Shinedown and Bush.

The highly anticipated record has been a long time coming, after getting delayed by a few months while Cornell and his bandmates perfected their sound.

Cornell has promised that the band will return with the new album of material in tow sometime later this year. Speaking to Triple M last month Cornell said, “We will come back soon after our album comes out and do a proper headlining tour.”
