We’ve been holding our collective breaths for this one for so long that we’re starting to go blue in the face, but it seems that our prayers may be about to be answered. Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and touring Australia with his acoustic show, has indicated that the band will be returning to Australia sometime soon.

“We’re trying to put together an Australian tour right now,” he said in an interview with Melbourne radio station Triple M. “I can’t give you the 100% confirmation of ‘yes, we’re doing it now’, but we’ll definitely get there. It will be sooner rather than later.”

Could we be seeing Soundgarden in 2012? There’s every possibility with whispers swirling that an appearance at Soundwave 2012 could be on the cards. Whatever the truth is Australian promoters will be scrambling to book the band after Cornell’s solo shows sold out in minutes across the country.

When asked about his upcoming tour, Chris said “It’s really different for me. It’s different approaching these songs from my entire career, learning new songs, and taking requests. It’s the perfect contrast to Soundgarden.”

Chris Cornell begins his Australian tour on October 7. An album of his live material is due for release in November.
