If everything about the world is making you want to punch your fist through drywall, this is the perfect soundtrack for your fury. Sydney hardcore champions SPEED have unleashed their 2020 FLEX flexi.

The two-track release feels so fucking crucial. 2020 FLEX sees the group grapple with political and social corruption and complacency. It’s a rage-inducing polemic against idle talk. A release that makes Australian hardcore feel vital again.

They’ve only been kicking around since 2019, but SPEED has already established themselves as the leaders of the Australian hardcore canon. The band are committed to challenging the hardcore scene by through embracing diversity championing compassion and directing their venom towards the toxic masculinity and gender prejudices that have poisoned hardcore.

FLEX 2020 marks the band’s debut release for US label Flatspot Records. The band are putting their money where their mouth is, and, alongside Flatspot Records, and Last Ride Records are donating webstore profits from the release. 50% of proceeds will be pledged to The Bail Project in the US and 50% going to Sisters Inside in Australia.

On Friday, June 19th — aka Juneteenth, a date that commemorates the abolishment of slavery in the US— Bandcamp will donate 100 per cent of their profits to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

“This coming Juneteenth (June 19, from midnight to midnight PDT) and every Juneteenth hereafter, for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, we will be donating 100% of our share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a national organization that has a long history of effectively enacting racial justice and change through litigation, advocacy, and public education,” the service shared in an open letter.
