The Splendour In The Grass 2012 lineup date has been announced for next week, with organisers telling fans this morning to keep their eyes out on the morning of Thursday 19th April.
The announcement will be made officially on triple j during Tom and Alex morning show, but for those of you not near a radio or who just can’t stand listening to their morning show updates will be posted here on Tone Deaf as soon as they are announced.
There’s been rampant speculation surrounding the lineup this year, and while a number of names have been floated organisers have been able to keep a firm lid for the most part, with very little leaking out.
We do have one confirmed act, Zulu Winter, and you can be sure they’re booked because the confirmation came from Secret Sounds, the sister company to Splendour In The Grass.
Otherwise there are a number of credible rumours making the rounds that should give us some idea of what to expect.
The Shins for instance let slip they’re due to play Splendour, although at this stage they’re only ‘pencilled in’. A few other names such as Lana Del Rey, Sleigh Bells, and The Ting Tings have also been suggested although none of the acts have responded to the rumours.
Jack White is also tipped by many pundits after he was announced for Fuji Rock in Japan. According to Triple J’s Zan Rowe, who caught up with former White Stripes frontman at SXSW to talk about his debut solo record, White will definitely be touring his solo stuff down under soon and Splendour looks as good as time as any.
The other band on everybody’s lips is Bloc Party, who FasterLouder have predicted. The group have played the festival three times already, and would be making an appearance debuting new material from their forthcoming fourth studio album which is due sometime this year.
While the prediction is based on pretty shaky evidence it would make sense for the festival to chase the British rock group seeing as they’ve booked them every two to three years since 2005 – their last appearance being back in 2009.
