In defence of the sky-rocketing price tag for Splendour in The Grass (among many), promoter Jessica Ducrou told The Sydney Morning Herald that the $465 ticket price was needed in order to ensure the best experience Splendour has been known to create.
She said “Splendour is a particularly expensive show; we spend a lot of money giving people the best experience possible with all the bells and whistles. We could cut all the extraneous costs and just be three days of bands but that’s not the type of event we are.” However this doesn’t address the fact that within the last few years prices have increased to levels many thought would be reserved for front row seats at a Rolling Stone concert.
This year Woodfordia on the Sunshine Coast will be home to 30, 000 punters for three days, with headline acts including The Strokes, The Pixies, LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala and Wolfmother.
Advice for die-hard fans: get in early to secure a spot at the stage, as Ducrou says that poor sound and queues are an “almost unsolvable” reality of festivals of its size.
