Only one day after tickets went on sale and sold out for this year’s Splendour In The Grass, scalpers have already begun their attack on desperate music fans by advertising tickets to the three day music festival through online auctioning and classified websites at ridiculously inflated prices.

Websites like Gumtree and eBay have been inundated with people seeking to auction off their tickets, as The Music reports, taking advantage of unsuspecting punters keen to do anything that they can to get to the event, taking place Friday 26 to Sunday 28 July at North Byron Parklands and featuring exclusive performances by the likes of Mumford & Sons, The National, and TV On The Radio.

Following weeks of lineup speculation and anticipation, tickets went on sale yesterday morning and within an hour of going on sale, organisers of the annual event advised that all 3 day, single day, and camping tickets to the 2013 event had completely sold out in a ticket-buying box office rush.

Despite further announcing a series of sideshows for disspointed festival fans – including this morning’s announcement of sideshows from Of Monsters & Men and Darwin Deez – those who missed out during the frenzied Splendour ticket-grab eager to head to the event are still seeking alternative avenues of securing themselves a spot at the festival.

Ticke pricing for the event included $105 for a camping pass, $147 for a single day ticket, and $359 for a full three-day pass, but those desperate to head to the event are willing to shell out exorbitant amounts well above those prices, despite the risk of being mislead into fakes or counterfeits.

Over on GumtreeAmy’s making a generous profit, selling her 3 day pass at $700, and this Malvern resident is willing to shell out an outrageous $1,500 for entry to the event. In a strange turn, sellers ‘Jason‘ and questionably named seller ‘Tix‘ are obviously two very generous people, offering free tickets to Splendour to those who are willing to send them interesting snapchat photos. Listings reported to have been posted on Ebay have now also now been pulled from the website.

Event organisers have also strongly advised against the selling and purchasing of scalped tickets, taking to Twitter to warn would-be sellers:

It was only two months ago that Consumer Affairs Victoria issued a warning to punters regarding the increasing number of online ticket-selling scams. Notifying how frauds will convince buyers to pay the large sums upfront to the seller whilst the tickets in question will often simply not be sent to the buyer or will have been featured on the advertisement only as a fake mock-up.

Unfortunately little to no buyer protection exists on the aforementioned online auction websites, meaning that you could easily be dishing out wads of cash with no promise of return or insurance. Furthermore, Splendour tickets require full details including name, date of birth, and corresponding ID to be allowed entry into the festival.

There’s not much that can stop people from advertising scalped tickets and there will always be a market of despondent festival fans eager to get their hands on a ticket. In reality though, sideshows are a-plenty and when it comes to buying second hand tickets, the risks outweigh the benefits. Don’t be fooled!
