Adele&Glenn are a two-piece band from Sydney. Our history lies in Brisbane where we first met playing for Robert Forster during his solo career after the Go-Betweens first split up. We went on to perform in the reformed Go-Betweens and Glenn also played in Custard.
Last year we got together in Marrickville to record an album together in Glenn’s studio. The album is called Carrington Street and it represents a year of our lives in Sydney. We’re touring from Brisbane to Melbourne during July playing all the songs from Carrington Street and more.
What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?
Playing in a band as a kid with my older brother and his friends. Rock’n’roll I saw on TV and heard on the radio sparked my interest.
You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What and where was the first gig you went to?
Dragon – Hervey Bay
‘Fess up. What records have you stolen from your parent’s record collection and why?
I haven’t, but I have bought the CDs later on. Sam Cooke, Frankie Lane, Johnnie Horton etc.
What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?
The latest thing I listened to a lot was The Shins – Port Of Morrow, but I’m over it now.
How do you find new music?
On the internet. Through blogs or just searching, following trails.
Do you have any particular ritual before you go on stage, or even a lucky charm you take with you?
I like to take a walk by myself sometimes. Just to try to forget about the people I’ve been talking to, and to try to just focus on the songs and the performance.
If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have (attractions/food/bars etc)?
Great question. Grant, Adele and I used to play this game on tour.
I would have: Jonathan Richman, Herman Düne, Camera Obscura, Western States Motel, the Mystery Jets, Bill Callahan, Richard Hawley, First Aid Kit, Smabassadeur and Teenage Fanclub.
It would be on Mt Hotham VIC there would be 3000 punters, no-one between the ages 14 of 26 would be admitted. International food of all flavours, not just stalls but restaurants. BYO, but no VB, Tooheys New, Melbourne Bitter of XXXX allowed. Resch’s is OK. No show rides or art installations.
When you’re Rolling Stones Big, what are you going to request on your rider: don’t be shy. We want specifics!
Potato scallops – we’re never going to be that big.
Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?
Sean Kelly or Dave Mason. I used to love what they did when I was young.
What is your band’s music the best soundtrack for?
Driving.
Where we can see you play next, what releases do you have available and where can we get them?
Like I said at the top. The album is Carrington Street.
It’s available on iTunes or Red Eye Records in Sydney, or our gigs.
