St Kilda Youth Service, FReeZA and the City of Port Phillip have just announced the return of the St Kilda Youth Festival to O’Donnell Gardens on Sunday 14 April 2013.
Now in its second year, the St Kilda Youth Festival is a free ‘for Youth by Youth’ community event promoting the diversity, talent and input of young people across Australia. This all ages, drug and alcohol free extravaganza is a highlight of National Youth Week supporting up and coming local artists and performers.
This year’s ‘Circus sideshow’ themed festival is expected to attract thousands of young Victorians. The festival features a fully programmed live music stage featuring 10 acts, as well as roving performances and sideshows on the day.
The lineup is set to inspire and help punters celebrating youth culture and music. First up on the bill are dance-rockers 8 Bit Love. The band released their sophomore EP, In 3D in October 2012. Toen Deaf had the exclusive stream of the album, and we produced a track by track breakdown. Check it out here. With a live show that can be described as a boisterous frenzy of cow-bell playing, screaming and dancing, their tunes burrow into the centre of your mind making the morning after a little more bearable.
Expressing their love for hip hop, love and life, the Kuan Yin Society are an all-female hip hop crew that incorporate art, music and dance simultaneously to deliver an inspirational and positive experience for all audiences. They have all had a long history in Melbourne in their respective arts and this show brings together over 15 years of diverse experiences, live performances, recordings, exhibitions, dance and dynamite.
Melbourne-based DJ MzRizk has been spinning soulful tunes and dope beats around town for over 5 years. Her ever-growing music collection includes hip hop, soul, funk, boogie, disco, indie and future beats. Mz Rizk has performedat festivals and events including Big Day Out, Australasian World Music Expo, Moomba and Push Over.
At just 15 years of age Soliloquy has accomplished more than most young aspiring rappers will ever dream of, let alone achieve. His debut performance was in front of a sold out venue making a guest appearance on stage with New York Hip-Hop legend Pharoahe Monch; since that show Soliloquy has been hard at work writing and recording for his debut The Unveiling.
Last but most certainly not least, is Grey Ghost who first gained attention as the front man of The Melodics. With the help of a cult following and some highly rotated Triple j singles, became known as innovators in the hip hop and indie scenes. The originality of the show has gained notoriety resulting in an array of summer festival invitations including Falls Festival, Byron Bay Bluesfest, BigSound and Canadian Music Week.
With such a stellar lineup, be sure to head south early for this unique and free event!
