It looks like the ever-elusive identity of Static-X singer Xer0 has finally been unmasked.

In 2018, four years after the tragic death of frontman Wayne Static, the band announced that they would be reuniting.

In March this year, the band unveiled their new vocalist… sort of. Static-X announced their new vocalist through a promotional video of the new frontman performing beloved tracks ‘Bled For Days’ and ‘Push It’ donning a mask resembling Wayne Static.

Since the announcement, the band have kept the identity of the new frontman, known as Xer0, under wraps. Now, a few sleuth-y fans think that they have figured out his identity.

It has been long speculated that, behind the mask, Wayne’s replacement was Dope frontman Edsel Dope. Well, it looks like those rumours are true.

Since Dope made his debut in the band he has kept his neck concealed with a neckerchief — obviously to conceal an identifying feature because what self-respecting nü-metal leader would don a neckerchief. During a concert in Hamberg, Germany,  Xer0’s neckerchief slipped down, revealing a tattoo on the side of his neck.

That tattoo has since been compared with a photo of Edsel Dope, and, you guessed it, it’s an exact match. Swindled by the neck tat.

Static-X bassist Tony Campos has previously delved into the band’s decision to get Xer0 to hide his identity. “Wayne was our Bruce Dickinson and our Eddie,  he explained in an interview with Loudwire. “I know he would’ve dug us representing him onstage like this. It also helps keep the focus on remembering Wayne and celebrating the anniversary as opposed to, ‘Oh, here’s Static-X’s new singer.’ That’s not what we’re trying to do.”

Static-X are set to drop their new album, Project Regeneration, on May 29, 2020. The record will feature 12 brand-new songs by the band, featuring the last-known recordings of Wayne Static on vocals.
