Static-X have given fans more news in regards to who will be taking the place of Wayne Static on their upcoming tour, partially revealing the news in a Facebook video earlier today.
Back in November of 2014, the world of music was stunned to learn of the death of Wayne Static. The co-founder – and only constant member – of alt-metal act Static-X, Static’s passing undoubtedly saw fans believe the group was done for good.
Last year though, the surviving members of the group revealed that the band would not only be reuniting for a new tour, but that a new album with unreleased vocals from Wayne Static was on the way.
However, the question on everyone’s lips has been, “who is replacing Wayne Static?” Now, we sort of have an answer.
Taking to Facebook today, Static-X shared a promotional video which saw them performing with their new vocalist, who was decked out in a mask.
Performing re-recorded portions of the tracks ‘Bled For Days’ and ‘Push It’, fans also scored a brief snippet of their new track, ‘All These Years’.
While fans have now seen the new vocalist in action, many are questioning who their identity is. As some fans have speculated, it’s possible that the new singer is Edsel Dope, whose band Dope will be accompanying the group on their upcoming tour dates.
“For us, the goal was 100% about recapturing the vibe and the spirit of Static-X,” the group explained in a statement. “We were never interested in using a hologram or using Wayne’s pre-recorded vocals.”
“It has to be real and it has to have a soul and a pulse. Static-X has always been four guys. Two guitars, bass, drums, and vocals,” they continued. “We didn’t want to mess with that formula.”
“This is the most electric version of Wisconsin Death Trip 2.0 that we can imagine, without actually having Wayne here with us.”
While the band also announced last year that their new album, Project Regeneration, would feature unreleased vocals from Wayne Static, along with contributions from guest vocalists, it seems it will now feature less guests than first planned.
Taking to Facebook yesterday, the group revealed they had discovered more vocals from Wayne Static, meaning the late frontman will have a much bigger role than expected.
“After announcing Project Regeneration to the world, we unexpectedly uncovered even more unreleased tracks left behind by Wayne,” the band explained. “Because of this, the album will have fewer guest vocalists and more complete songs featuring lead vocals by Wayne Static.”
“In the end, we couldn’t be more excited about the music that we are making together and we know that Wayne would be honored and proud.”
In related news, Static-X recently revealed dates for the Australian leg of their Wisconsin Death Trip Tour.
“Our intention is to pay ultimate respect to Wayne and to celebrate the music that has been in all of our hearts for more than 20 years,” the group explained in a statement.
“It’s all about channelling the vibe from 1999 to the best of our ability and playing those classic Static-X songs live and loud with the fans.”
Tickets to the band’s tour, which features support from Wednesday 13 and Dope, go on sale Friday at 11am through Metropolis Touring.
