It’s been just over a year since Stone Temple Pilots released their last album, but a new one is reportedly around the corner, according to vocalist Jeff Gutt.

Back in March of 2018, Stone Temple Pilots released their seventh studio album. Their first since 2010, their second self-titled record, and their first with new vocalist Jeff Gutt, the release came after a rather dark period for the group.

With founding frontman Scott Weiland having passed in 2015, and the death of previous vocalist Chester Bennington not long after, the group’s new record was met with apprehension by a lot of purists.

However, while frontman Jeff Gutt explained that the band were planning to release a new acoustic record soon, it appears that their next album has now been complete.

Speaking to Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon (via Blabbermouth), Gutt explained the 25th anniversary of Stone Temple Pilots’ 1994 album Purple has seen things get a little bit hectic for the band.

Noting that creation of the new album featured “no rules on it having to be acoustic or anything,” Gutt explained that”it has a vibe to it, and it’s […] beautiful. It’s actually finished, it’s all new songs.”

“With the Purple thing happening, it’s pushing back the other thing,” Gutt continued. “‘Cause we were only supposed to do a few songs, and it turned into a full record, ’cause we had so much creativity happening at the time. So we just made a whole record.

“It’s a very beautiful record. And I’m really happy with it.”

While initial reports seemed to indicate the album could include renditions of previously-released tracks, these new comments indicate that Stone Temple Pilots might be in one of their most creative periods to date, with new songs appearing to follow them at every turn.
