After the famous Texas music festival South by Southwest (SXSW) was cancelled earlier this week due to Coronavirus fears, patrons have now found out that there will be no refunds given.

Fears of Coronavirus are becoming widespread – Coachella has been postponed, Miley Cyrus has pulled out of her upcoming Bushfire Relief concert, and multiple other concerts, events, and public spaces have been either cancelled or closed.

Earlier this week, SXSW was also cancelled due to Coronavirus fears. As a music festival that has been continuously serving up great line-ups for years announced that they were devastated by their decision.

“‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.”

Now, as punters scramble to adjust their plans and cancel reservations for the event taking place later this week, they have found out they will not be issued a refund.

For those who had already purchased their tickets, it might have been worth their time to read the fine print in their terms and conditions. SXSW holds a strict no-refunds policy.

“SXSW may, in its sole discretion and at any time determined by SXSW, cancel, revoke, or refuse from any individual or company the following: Credentials, purchases, and/or hotel reservations made through SXSWSXSW will not be responsible for any penalty, fee, loss, or expense that might result from such action,” the policy states.

SXSW does not issue refunds under any circumstances. Any and all payments made to SXSW are not refundable for any reason, including, without limitation, failure to use Credentials due to illness, acts of God, travel-related problems, acts of terrorism, loss of employment and/or duplicate purchases.”

Although the festival has included a clause in their policies to include transferring your ticket to another years event, many ticket holders are understandably bummed that they cannot get a refund at all.
