Get ready for a new concert experience because Sydney is getting a drive-in concert, and it’s set to kick off with Casey Donovan tomorrow evening.
No need to wait around for proper gigs to start up, as Sydney is taking a bit of a leaf from Denmark’s books with drive-in concerts now on offer, starting on Thursday, May 21st.
Happening via Drive-In Entertainment Australia, singer-songwriter Casey Donovan, plus special guests, are set to take the stage at Tempe’s Robyn Webster Sport Centre tomorrow evening.
With tickets being offered for free via Drive-In Entertainment Australia’s website, all it’ll cost you is the petrol to get to the gig which you’ll watch from the comfort of your own car.
So, how exactly does a drive-in concert work? For the audio, it will be broadcasted via your cars FM radio, or you can simply roll down your windows to listen to the stylings of Casey Donovan live.
Want to give an applause at the end of each song? The concert organisers are encouraging attendees to get a bit creative by using their car horns, or even swishing their windshield wipers to simulate applause.
“We, like most people in the entertainment industry, we were left devastated when our gigs evaporated overnight,” stated Samwise Holmes, the Drive-In Entertainment Australia Managing Director.

“Rather than let it defeat us, we sought to innovate. Entertainment is what keeps the light on in times like this, we want to keep Australians hopeful and keep entertainers employed – while adhering to strict health regulations.”
Even though some restrictions are beginning to lift, and we could see groups of 100 allowed to congregate in the future, Holmes mentioned that it’s “not sustainable for most live performances.”
“With the Drive-In Hubs, performers will have the ability to entertain up to 300 cars. And that’s a lot of people having a great night out – safely!”
Not in Sydney? Don’t get too disappointed, the company is also keen to get more concerts on the go, too with NSW and Victoria should have other gigs popping up, with other states to follow.
