Earlier this it was announced that a gigantic music complex was set to open its doors in Melbourne, and guess what, d-day is almost upon us, and we’ve got photos to get you get excited.
Wick Studios, situated on 23-25 Leslie Street, Brunswick, will open its doors officially on Sunday 17 May, the massive creative space including two recording studios, two areas suitable for live music gigs, a full-size photographic and video studio, not to mention a staggering 15 pristine and completely soundproofed rehearsal rooms equipped with top-of-the-line technology.
Nelli Huie, a representative of Wick Studios spoke of the exciting times ahead, “Our commitment to the Australian independent music industry is shown right here in bricks and mortar, our team has toiled tirelessly over the last two years to build a world-class music industry complex geared to attract international musicians, producers, and record label interest right into the heart of Melbourne.”
Not only will Wick Studios provide a massive amount creative space, they’ve also got a few more helpful tricks up their sleeves for recording artists.
They’ll also offer artist development services covering the often unsupported facets of life as a recording artist in Australia: In-house photographers and music video directors, marketing and A&R professionals, music industry legal support and graphic design, right down to the simple finishing touches of printing/photocopying services, and free Wi-Fi for artist use throughout the complex.
But wait, that’s not all, the studios have already recruited American music industry veteran Lynn Robnett, who is currently working from Los Angeles to scout and develop independent and undiscovered musicians from Australia in order to present them with international touring, recording, and publishing opportunities.
Robnett detailed this further, “I know that there are definitely artists in Australia that can translate to the world markets. I have my eye on those markets to recognise which sounds coming out of Melbourne and Australia might have a shot internationally. The resources that Wick Studios can offer for developing talent, and my ability to connect them to the overseas market are an unstoppable combination.”
To celebrate the opening of this game-changing industry establishment, Wick are throwing a free party at the studio from 2:00pm Sunday 17 May.
There will be food, drinks and most importantly, live performances from Aussie rock favourite, Ella Hooper, the incredible Mojo Juju and rising blues troubadour Shaun Kirk, as well as Oscar Bublé and the Butterboys, Eleven, The Seaford Monster, Sub Rosa, and My Echo.
