A professional Las Vegas showgirl has filed a Taylor Swift The Life of a Showgirl lawsuit for trademark infringement, claiming the album’s title and branding are a direct rip-off of her established career.

Per Rolling Stone, the lawsuit was filed by Maren Flagg, who performs under the stage name Maren Wade. For the past decade, Wade has built a career around her ‘Confessions of a Showgirl’ brand, which she officially trademarked back in 2015.

The suit alleges that the similarity between her brand and Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl is undeniable. It also claims that Swift’s own attempts to trademark the album title were denied precisely because of the perceived similarity to Wade’s existing mark. Despite this, the lawsuit contends that Swift and her team proceeded to use the title for the album, merchandise, and a massive global branding campaign without ever seeking Wade’s permission.

“Maren spent more than a decade building Confessions of a Showgirl. She registered it. She earned it,” Jaymie Parkkinen, a lawyer for Wade, told Rolling Stone. “When Taylor Swift’s team applied to register The Life of a Showgirl, the Trademark Office refused, finding Swift’s mark confusingly similar. We have great respect for Swift’s talent and success, but trademark law exists to ensure that creators at all levels can protect what they’ve built. That’s what this case is about.”

Wade’s lawsuit claims that her own brand has been effectively “swamped” by the sheer scale of Swift’s ‘Showgirl era’, which has been a monumental success since its release in October 2025. Wade now argues that the global saturation of Swift’s branding has damaged her own business and career.
