The Teal Australian Tour 2013 has been announced as the Sydney rock band put together a huge ending to their year with a new record deal, their debut EP, and a series of live shows starting next month.

Teal has signed with Sydney label Bird’s Robe Records for the release of their debut EP, Hearth, due August 23rd. “We are extremely proud to join Bird’s Robe, they harbor killer bands like sleepmakeswaves, The Nerve and 65daysofstatic,” says guitarist Mitch Clews of their new deal. “We have known Mike [Solo, Bird’s Robe director] for a while now and he has been a great supporter of the band, we are excited to be working with him”

It seems that the Bird’s Robe head shares the same mutual admiration. “I’m stoked to be welcoming Teal into the Bird’s Robe family. They’re already so well liked by so many BRR bands that it seems like a natural fit,” he said of the newest addition to the roster. “They are a fantastic live band with heaps of potential and they’ve successfully translated that to record with Lucius. It’s been a while since I saw such a young band with so much conviction. This EP is just the start – I’m really excited to see where they go next. Make sure you catch them on stage!”

Teal’s debut EP Hearth was produced by prog drummer Lucius Borich (formerly Cog, currently Floating Me and The Nerve), the five track release mark’s Borich’s first official foray into production after opening Keysound Studios in 2012. And what better band to start with than the unique, theatrical-leaning rock of Teal.

“Working with Teal was something very special for me. A collective trust in each other’s ideas became a strong bond. It shows in the finished musical statement that is made.” says Borich of recording the EP. These guys have a big future in the Australian music scene, if not the world that’s for sure!”

Teal bassist Andrew Quzion was equally enthusiastic about working with ‘Loosh’, “we really tried to capture everything live. It was a conscious decision to avoid any quantising, sampling or anything like that. We spent ages just really vibing it out and I think it really shows.”

Off the back of the EP Teal has also announced a tour throughout September, taking in an extensive run of east coast shows, putting a cap to an amazing 16 months, including signing on with young manager Hamish Smith and occupying themselves with two singles and touring the coast and playing shows with fellow heavy creatives sleepmakeswaves, Dead Letter Circus, Closure in Moscow, The Red Paintings and Twelve Foot Ninja.
