Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are keepers of the most incredible band name in history, and they have the music to back it up. Since breaking out through triple j Unearthed High, the band have won over the hearts of Australia. Their luscious 90’s grunge-indebted tunes struck a chord with the nation.

The band have cut their teeth on the festival circuit, earning spots on Falls Festival, Lost Paradise, Spilt Milk, Groovin The Moo and St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival.

We simply adore Teen Jesus, so we sent them through a few quick ‘Get To Know’ questions. Check out what they had to say below.

How did your artist name come about?

I wish we had a crazy backstory for it but Unfortunately, it’s not super exciting. A friend of Scarlett’s dad came up with it, everyone was super hesitant at first but in the end, it stuck and we’re so happy it did!!

How would you describe your music to your grandma?

That’s a tricky one. I think most of our grandmas refer to our sound as ‘rock music’ which seems like a pretty good fit, but I think our music is up to interpretation for all the grandmas in the world.

Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?

All of our songs are generally not about one thing, more like a whole lot of things and/or feelings combined. For example one of recent releases ‘ I like that you like that ‘ is about shitty friends, but no one in particular, and the feeling that comes with what could best be described as ‘ a dog act’

What do you love about your hometown?

The skywhale! It’s a giant hot air balloon that’s the shape of a whale except it has 10-15 breast hang off it. It just floats through the sky all day bringing joy to the people of Canberra

Career highlights so far?

There’s been too many!!! Playing to and overcapacity venue at BIGSOUND to 4-5 hundred people definitely bought a smile to or faces, and getting asked to play falls was an absolute dream. We’re honestly in shock of some of the experiences we’ve been through with the band especially this year, and we’re so so grateful for all the opportunities we’ve been given.

Fave non-music hobby?

We’ve all got so many hobbies it’s hard to choose from!! Neve is an absolute gun at skiing, Anna loves cooking up a storm and trying out the funkiest new hair colours, Jaida loves a good skate and Scarlett is an amazing artist/tattoo artist.

What’s on your dream rider?

• A 5kg jar of hummus (Yumi’s of course)
• Gin Kombuchas (endless supply)
• A framed photo of Dewey Finn from the school of rock
• 4 ready-made Grease Monkeys vegan burgers (a local Canberra burger shop).
• Multiple dogs to play with
