It has been reported that Tekashi 6ix9ine, real name Daniel Hernandez, was confronted by a gang of Crips upon entering the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center on November 19. This confrontation is what spurred 6ix9ine’s controversial transfer to a safer prison facility.

According to TMZ, the incident followed Hernandez’ unsuccessful bail hearing. Upon returning to the intake cell, Hernandez was confronted by several members of the Crips gang. Hernandez was reportedly subjected to a “g check”, to confirm whether or not the rapper was legitimately a member of the 9 Trey Bloods gang.

Hernandez’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, told media that 6ix9ine “was being threatened in jail. However, he was not scared nor did he request being removed. The [Bureau of Prisons], acting upon these threats, removed him to a different facility to eliminate the threat.”

During a hearing last month Lazarro argued that Hernandez was not actually a gangster, he is merely “an entertainer who portrays a ‘gangster image’”
