Problematic rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine and four of his cronies were arrested last week for racketeering, gun possession and drug distribution. Tekashi was already on probation for a number of crimes, including a 2015 sex crime case and a disorderly conduct charge. Tekashi is currently looking at a minimum of 32 years in prison, potentially a life sentence.

The charges against Tekashi hinge around his affiliation with Nine Trey Bloods, a New York Gang that is a set of the Bloods Gang. The gang is allegedly behind a number of shootings and armed robberies that happened this year. According to US reports, his arrest relates to a five-year federal investigation. Tekashi is looking at charges for racketeering, drug dealing, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit murder.

The indictment against Tekashi reads “Members and associates of the Enterprise promoted and celebrated the criminal conduct of the Enterprise, namely narcotics distribution, acts involving violence, and the use of firearms, in music and on social media. The purposes of the Enterprise included preserving and protecting the power, territory, and profits of the Enterprise through acts involving murder… and threats of violence.”

At a court hearing, assistant US attorney Michael Long detailed Tekashi “is a member of a violent sect of the Bloods. This defendant participated in multiple acts of violence.”

Tekashi’s lawyer, Lance Lazzaro has argued that 6ix9ine is “innocent of all charges being brought against him”. Lazarro has declared that 6ix9ines involvement with Nine Trey Bloods was purely for his image, he has argued that 6ix9ine is “an entertainer who portrays a ‘gangster image’ to promote his music does not make him a member of an enterprise.”

According to Lazzaro, Tekashi was not an active participant of the Bloods but had hired members of the gang as management and security after meeting them at a concert in 2017. Lazarro has claimed that Tekashi “became a victim of this enterprise and later took steps by firing employees and publicly denounced this enterprise through a morning show.”

6ix9ine has been refused bail.
