Just days after teasing a forthcoming announcement, The 1975 have announced the release of their new single, ‘Frail State Of Mind’.

Over the weekend, fans of The 1975 were sent into overdrive when frontman Matty Healy shared an Instagram post hinting at an incoming announcement in the next few days, with fans believing this could be the next taste of their forthcoming record.

Titled Notes On A Conditional Form, the album is the second to be released as part of their ‘Music For Cars’ era, and has already seen the release of a pair of new songs, including ‘The 1975’ and ‘People’.

With the band recently wrapping up an Australian tour as they draw closer to the record’s February release date, it makes sense that we might be receiving some new music in the very near future, with Matty Healy’s post giving some credence to this rumour.

Featuring a large number five in the corner, the picture included an initialism of the band’s upcoming record, alongside the words “Music For Cars”, “The 1975”, and “Notes On A Conditional Form“.

In the left corner though, is a catalogue number which coincides with the band’s previous releases on the Dirty Hit record label. With the new album featuring the catalogue number of “DH00566” (as per its cover), this number of “DH00662” was what saw fans believe a new single was imminent.

Now, The 1975 have given us an update, revealing that their countdown is leading towards the release of a new single titled ‘Frail State Of Mind’.

Clocking 3 minutes and 54 seconds and serving as the record’s fourth track, ‘Frail State Of Mind’ was alluded to last year by Matty Healy in an interview conducted by Dazed.

“There’s a song on it called ‘Frail State of Mind’, which is a UK garage, sad, Burial kind of thing about social anxiety, you know, going out,” he explained.

“I’m better at it happening, (at) me and you sitting down and having a conversation, than thinking about going to do the conversation. The social event’s normally always fine, but the build up to it, I hate it.”

Of course, looking past the irony of holding a countdown for a song that is about hating the build up to a social event, it seems as though we’ll only have a couple of days to go before The 1975 release the new track, which is set for release on Thursday in the UK, and therefore Friday for Australian fans.

While we’ll have to wait and see what the new single sounds like, local fans are already gearing up for the band’s return, with The 1975 set to headline the 2020 Laneway Festival. Kicking off in early February, we’ll be getting some pretty nifty previews of the new record ahead of its release on February 21st.
