Just last week, synthpop favourites Passion Pit opened up about the circumstances that surround band cancelling shows, with frontman Michael Angelakos citing conflicting scheduling, illness, and inclement weather as main reasons bands have to regrettably pull the plug on their concerts.
We can now add another bullet point to that list: “exciting unforeseen circumstances.”
This jazzed-up variation arrives courtesy of the chart-topping hardcored heores, The Amity Affliction, who kickstart their Australia-trotting Brothers In Arms tour this Friday, taking their well-loved hardcore live show across the country with support from Chelsea Grin, Stick To Your Guns, and fellow UNFD favourites and Indigenous charity helpers, In Hearts Wake.
But Melbourne fans looking forward to Amity’s third and final show at the Palace Theatre will be missing out on a performance from the Gympie-bred five-piece who have cancelled the concert in an announcement today.
An official statement from the band notes they “regret to announce” the cancellation reads: “Due to some exciting unforeseen circumstances we have to cancel our show in Melbourne on Thursday the 24th of October. All tickets bought for this show will be valid for our show at the Palace on Wednesday the 23rd. If you are unable to attend this show refunds are available from the point of purchase.”
There’s no further details to the band’s “exciting” developments (recording? writing? replacement show?), with the statement only offering that “everything will become clearer next week!”
The Brothers In Arms tour, which kicks off this Friday 18th October with a hometown show at Brisbane’s Riverstage, follows on from The Amity Affliction’s last headline tour of the country this time last year, following in the wake of their third studio album, Chasing Ghosts, debuting at the #1 slot on the ARIA Albums Chart in September 2012. A feat described as “too much to take in really,” by drummer Ryan Burt in a Tone Deaf interview last year. “You always hope you’ll make it, but you never really know, said Burt. “We pushed on because we thought there was a chance we’d get bigger, but we’re very thankful for where we are now. It’s incredible.”
Since then, The Amity Affliction have performed at major national festivals like Soundwave and Groovin’ The Moo, and more recently recorded a cover of none other than doe-eyed neo-chanteuse Lana Del Rey, in a cover of ‘Born To Die’ refashioned into the group’s hardcore style as ‘Too Legit To Quit’.
