This morning brought the wonderful news that The Avalanches would finally be releasing their first taste of new music, 16 years after they unveiled their highly esteemed debut album, Since I Left You.
As good fortune would have it, it wasn’t just another false start from the band, who were supposed to drop a new album something like 30 times already. The band’s new single, ‘Frankie Sinatra’, is finally here.
A collaboration with Danny Brown, the rapper previously gushed about the tune during a conversation with triple j’s Richard Kingsmill, revealing that he’d worked with the plunderphonics crew when here for Splendour 2014.
“I did one song with them a while ago and it was cool,” he said. “They felt like it was okay and I felt like it was okay. But then we actually got in the studio and made a record and I swear the record we made is incredible.”
“‘Frank Sinatra’ [sic] was the first one we did. That was cool but the one we did after that… I swear, if we put that out, it’ll change the world. I heard it that first night and that was the only time I heard it.”
“I wanna hear it again! But I know for a fact I put my foot into that song. When I work on something that hard I really like to receive the benefits from it so I can’t wait until The Avalanches release their next project!”
Meanwhile, one lucky tweeter has apparently gotten ahold of a T-shirt for the band’s upcoming tour dates, revealing that the new album may be titled Wildflower. Check out ‘Frankie Sinatra’, in all its glory, below.
