Hmmm, you wonder if there is any way this one could work at all, but hey there’s money involved so they’ll probably give it a good try. Dan Akroyd, one half of the legendary duo The Blues Brothers, is trying to pitch a script that will see the concept at least return to their original home of television.
Originally starting out on Saturday Night Live as a series of sketches, the rights to The Blues Brothers are owned by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi’s ex-wife, Judy. Judy Belushi seems to have no qualms about resurrecting the duo, even if her former husband John died after a massive booze and drug bender in 1982.
She says ‘I think these are great American characters. We want to keep them alive. We chose to introduce them as new characters but do it in a way that they have some history, have some life behind them.’
The original film, now considered a cult classic, was made in 1980, when Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi teamed up with the director John Landis to make the legendary film which featured appearances and musical numbers from James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles.
A sequel to the film was made by Landis and Akroyd in 1998, and released as Blues Brothers 2000, but the film bombed at the box office and was given a mauling by critics.
